Silver Light Seniors Association May 2026 Monthly Chronicle

May 9 The ethnic dance team of Silver Light Seniors Association participated in the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month celebration held at Mason Park in Annadale. Equipped with a spacious stage and complete audience seating, the venue provided excellent performance conditions. The team presented two wonderful dance performances, For You and the Korean traditional dance Where Azaleas Bloom. The elegant and heartfelt performances received warm applause from the audience.

May 12 The Herndon Senior Center celebrated its 21st anniversary. The Council of Silver Light Seniors Association assisted with on-site coordination, program arrangement and emceeing. Our association brought six diverse performances, including chorus, ethnic dances, instrumental music, ballroom dance, and Tai Chi. During the program, the host introduced the regular class schedules for each activity category and encouraged local seniors to join community courses. The celebration performance lasted for one hour and concluded successfully.

May 16 Dance teams from the Annandale and Tyson chapters of Silver Light Seniors Association participated in FIESTA ASIA, a major Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month event held on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. The lively festival featured numerous Asian cultural booths and attracted large crowds of visitors. The Annandale Chapter performed Love Song of Tea Mountain, and the Tyson Chapter presented the festive dance Auspicious Celebration Song. The two wonderful opening performances showcased the elegance of traditional Asian culture and set a joyful tone for the day’s event.

May 19 Ms. Chen Lizhen, President of Silver Light Seniors Association, attended the board meeting at the Fairfax County Government Center. Fairfax County is a highly diverse and inclusive multiethnic community, with approximately 39 percent of residents aged five and older speaking a language other than English. Following the meeting requirement for cultural representation, all organizational representatives attended in traditional ethnic attire, creating a vibrant atmosphere of multicultural harmony.

During the session, the county officially designated May 19, 2026 as a commemorative date in Fairfax County to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the founding of the United States. The meeting also honored outstanding student winners of the 10th Fairfax Regional High School Shark Tank Tech Challenge. In addition, the county emphasized the “Stop Hate” initiative, advocating mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among all ethnic communities to build a friendly and inclusive living environment across Fairfax County.

May 20 The Silver Light Chorus held its special May Concert 2026 at the Herndon Senior Center. Under the guidance of Art Director Ms. Li Jiying, all thirty chorus members completed professional vocal warm-ups before the performance. The team presented a total of twenty-one carefully selected songs with full dedication and steady professionalism. The entire concert proceeded smoothly and achieved great success.

May 23 In the afternoon, President Chen Lizhen, Director Xiao Yuping, former Director Xu Yinshu and his wife paid a respectful visit to former Association Vice President Ms. Wu Yuelan, presenting her with a certificate of appreciation and commemorative gifts.

During her term of service, Ms. Wu Yuelan demonstrated outstanding responsibility, careful planning and proactive work attitudes. She served diligently as the editorial supervisor of the Silver Light Newsletter, ensuring refined layout and high-quality publication for every issue. She also devoted herself to organizing health and wellness programs for association members. Due to her husband’s health conditions at that time, Ms. Wu Yuelan resigned from the Council to focus on family care. Currently, her husband’s health has stabilized. The association sincerely wishes the couple continued health and well-being and looks forward to Ms. Wu’s return to participate in future Silver Light activities.
